One Poem
by Joey Wańczyk

Carrion Kiss

The moon was sharp-edged
pointing opposite of heaven.

A storm blowing from paradise
moved across the greying sky.

I have kissed my best friend—
my lips like carrion

to him. My tongue
a maggot in my mouth.

A flood of saliva—cascading
river—through the gaps

in my teeth, the gap between
our battling mouths.
