One Poem
by Lemmy Ya’akova

rotten with potential

Kristin calls this city rotten with potential. when
I think of you, I think of this city, how it molded you.
melted into you & made you one. one day I’ll say,
I told you so! I told you, you could choose to be loving.
do you see now? do you see now, the love I have for you?
my overripened thing, a peach I checked, gently
squished & found, just right for jam.

Kristin calls this city rotten with potential. when
I think of you, I think of this city , how it molded you.
melted into you & made you one. one day I’ll say,
I told you so! I told you, you could choose to be loving.
do you see now? do you see now, the love I have for you?
my overrippened thing, a peach I checked, gently
squished & found, just right for jam.

rotten, this city
made you my overripened
thing—just right for jam.
