One Poem
by Tom Snarsky
Book of Hours
The divine slowness with which we solve
our problems, or don’t—ice
melting on the pond. The pumpkin
we tossed there, having gathered its little
lot of snow against all that glistening
gray, has begun to disappear. We sit
in silence awhile, long enough for our
thoughts to slalom more or less through
the same gates, so when you half-turn to
me & say something a bit coded, not
parseable until my eyes adjust to the setting
sun & auditory processing does its stuff, in
a moment I’m there, I’m right there with you
Tom Snarsky wrote the chapbooks Threshold (Another New Calligraphy) and Complete Sentences (Broken Sleep Books), as well as the full-length poetry collections Light-Up Swan & Reclaimed Water (both from Ornithopter Press).
